Search and Recovery Diver Specialty

Class Description: One of the fun aspects of scuba diving is finding lost objects under water. The Search and Recovery Specialty teaches you how to find objects and how to use a lift bag to safely bring heavy objects to the surface.

About the Class: You begin by going through the Search and Recovery Manual and completing the Knowledge Reviews. We meet for a classroom session to go over the Knowledge Reviews, discuss search techniques and review recovery equipment. Four Open Water dives are required for this specialty. We go to a lake or quarry to practice different search techniques and use lift bags to bring objects to the surface.

What You Can Do: It is not uncommon to find lost items during your dives. After taking this course, you will be more prepared and able to safely find and recover these items.

Prerequisites: You must be at least 12 years old and a Junior Advanced or Advanced Open Water Diver.

Equipment: An underwater reel assists in doing search patterns. Once you learn how to use a lift bag, you will want to own one. Get one to use during the course and you will get great experience in using it.

Costs: Info coming soon.

What's Next: This specialty applies towards the five needed to get your Master Scuba Diver rating.
